Welcome to the pride of the Singapore Gaelic Lions. The SGL was formed in 1997 and has grown to become one of the largest Gaelic Athletic Association clubs in Asia. Their 200+ members represent Singapore in the sports of Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie. The membership hail from all over the world, including Asia-Pac, Europe and North America and include a good number of juvenile players know as Cubs.
Since the early days the Singapore Gaelic Lions have enjoyed great success both on and off the field. Along with winning trophies and admirers, it has become a home to so many people and given members the chance to travel, compete and enjoy what the rest of Asia has to offer. Indeed we still have members here that arrived in the late nineties and now call Singapore their new home. We now boast members from 9 countries and from all 32 counties in Ireland in our club and each and every year look to find more participants from further a field that will give GAA a go.
Singapore has been working on a project to teach the skills of Gaelic football in local schools with the support of the Singapore Ireland Fund, St Patrick’s Secondary School, D.F.A.T. in Dublin, the GAA in Croke Park, the Singapore Gaelic Lions and the Singapore Ministry of Education shows how a group can thrive when all parts are working together in unity. To date we have over 1000 players trained.
In 2016, the inaugural Asian Youth Championship took place in Hanoi, Vietnam with 160 young players from all over Asia in action. This was a brilliant first edition and progressed to an even bigger events in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 Singapore will host the AYC on the 12th of October and hope to continue making this great event grow from strenght to strenght.
Once a Lion, Always a Lion.
